How Men are Different from Women, Financially Speaking

Lisa Adams
Ken R. Clark
Women, over the years, have been grossly underestimated when it comes to handling their finances and this often creates the lack of confidence to take control of their money. What we've learned is that women have a place to be involved in financial decisions. They have unique blind spots that our male counterparts do not have and most women will be forced into this financial role at some point in their lives.

Game theory for traffic congestion, satellite formation control, and supply chains.

Sarah Li
As data-driven algorithms increasingly automate everyday tasks in our lives, the need to understand the algorithmic behavior under competition has never been greater. For example, when autonomous cars become the dominant automobile on the roads, traffic regulators need to be able to predict and regulate the roadway trends in order to better maintain traffic infrastructure. In this session, I will describe how game theory and the concept of Nash equilibrium can be applied to a variety of applications including traffic congestion, drone formation control, and autonomous satellite swarms. In particular, I will focus on how to leverage the game framework to ensure that autonomous multi-agent systems remain safe and controllable from a system operator perspective.

The Importance of Women’s Political Empowerment in Troubled Times

Dr. Catherine Bolzendahl
Few social changes have been as dramatic and rapid as the increased political representation of women worldwide. Scholars and public figures rightfully tout these gains as remarkable evidence of greater gender equality, yet nowhere do women hold equal power to men in influencing and exercising political authority worldwide and efforts to increase women’s political agency are often actively and violently repressed. Using my own research on these issues, I illustrate three axioms for a global focus on political gender equality. After identifying key limitations and ongoing challenges, I offer questions and suggestions for ways that Zonta members might usefully engage in forwarding women’s political empowerment.
