Chris Hartmann

Christopher Hartmann, Vice President, Government Affairs

National Association of Health Underwriters


Chris Hartmann is Vice President of Government Affairs for the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU).  NAHU represents more than 100,000 health insurance agents, brokers and consultants nationwide.  


Chris joined the staff of NAHU in 2013. In his position Chris directs NAHU legislative issues on Capitol Hill including Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Medicare, Medicaid, ERISA, and Children's Health Insurance Program.  Chris also works on regulatory affairs with the executive branch and the Health Underwriters Political Action Committee (HUPAC).  


Chris has 18 years of public policy experience.   This experience included 11 years working for Congressman Rush Holt (NJ-12), including five years as his Chief of Staff.  Chris also served as Holt’s Legislative Director working on Congressional Committee work, focusing on the public policy areas of healthcare, employer benefits, tax policy and senior issues.  Chris has also spent three years working for Congressman Bart Stupak (MI-1) a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee.   Chris has considerable experience working on several congressional campaigns involving strategy, field operations, media and fundraising.


Chris graduated from American University in 1999 with a B.A. degree in political science and law and society.
