William Taylor

William A. Taylor is the holder of the Lee Drain Endowed University Professorship, previous department chair, and award-winning associate professor of global security studies in the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center for Security Studies at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Taylor is the series editor for the new book series Studies in Civil-Military Relations with University Press of Kansas and author or editor of four books, including Contemporary Security Issues in Africa (Santa Barbara, CA: Praeger, 2019). His books are housed in more than 1,400 libraries throughout the United States and in more than forty-five countries around the world. He has contributed to more than twenty other books and has published more than eighty-five reference articles and book reviews.
 

Violent Extremism in Nigeria: Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province
 

This paper covers violent extremism in Nigeria, prominently focusing on Boko Haram and its various splinter factions, especially Islamic State West Africa Province and to a lesser degree Ansaru. In it, I argue that Boko Haram has remained resilient in the face of various countering violent extremism efforts and has expanded its violent insurgency.
