Ricardo Crespo was recently awarded his Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside. His research interest are in economic warfare, currency power, currency warfare, and foreign policy. He is a tenure track instructor of political science at Grossmont College. 

 

Currency Warfare and Air Power: An Examination of Operation Point Blank and the Air Campaign Against ISIS’s Currency Reserves

 

Operation Point Blank, the air campaign against the Islamic State’s currency holdings represents something new in warfare, the direct targeting of an enemy’s currency from the air. However, from the perspective of currency warfare the weaponization and targeting of currency, Operation Point Blank is not a new concept but rather a new form of waging currency warfare.
