Andrew Marshall is a Ph.D. candidate in comparative politics in Georgetown University’s Government Department. His research focuses on the language policy and the politics of ethnic and national identification in Kenya and Tanzania.

 

Bible Translation and the Politics of National Cohesion

 

In this paper, I examine the nation-building implications of Bible translation through a case study of the recently completed effort to produce the first full Bible translation in Igikuria, the language associated with the Abakuria ethnicity in northwestern Tanzania and southwestern Kenya.
