Hala Adel Abdelgawad is an assistant lecturer of political science at Cairo University and a Doctoral Researcher in Gender Studies at the School of Law, Politics, and Sociology, University of Sussex. Her PhD dissertation is mainly focusing on female judgeship and gendered dynamics of the judiciary in Egypt.
Between Exclusionary Discourses and “Performative Citizenship” : The Dynamics of Women’s Mobilization regarding the Appointment of Female Administrative Law Judges in Egypt
This article explores the strategies and tools employed by women’s rights activists, feminist organizations, and female law school graduates in campaigning and lobbying against the discourse of the administrative judiciary in Egypt, rejecting appointing women as judges in its courts. The article is based on qualitative interviews conducted in Egypt.
