Daniel Rickenbacher is a Kreitman Postdoctoral Fellow at Ben-Gurion University. He is working in the fields of contemporary European and Middle Eastern history, geopolitics as well as the history of political violence and propaganda. He is currently investigating transnational networks of Middle Eastern migrants in the Western diaspora.
Unwelcome Victims of Arab Nationalism: Jewish-Egyptian Refugees in Switzerland after the Suez Crisis
Several hundred Egyptian Jews fled to Switzerland, as Nasser’s nationalist regime escalated anti-Jewish measures after the Suez Crisis. Switzerland tried to prevent them from settling in Switzerland, seeing itself as a transit country. Thanks to the efforts of the local Jewish community, a small Jewish-Egyptian community eventually managed to establish themselves in Switzerland.
