Taylan Paksoy

Currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Bilkent University, Taylan Paksoy conducted archival research for his studies at the American University of Beirut in 2018. He works as a researcher for the “Nuclear Proliferation Project” run by TÜBITAK and works as a graduate assistant at Bilkent University.

 

The Juggling Prince and the Diplomat: Fouad Chehab and McClintock and 1958 Lebanon Crisis

 

How did Lebanese Army Commander Fouad Chehab and American Ambassador to Lebanon Robert McClintock prevented 1958 Lebanon Crisis and the American intervention from turning into a protracted conflict? This study will evaluate the cooperation between Fouad Chehab and Robert McClintock, arguing that their co-management of the crisis facilitated political mediation and the resolution of the crisis.
