Ilma Qureshi is a doctoral candidate at the University of Virginia. She focuses on the theme of love in Sufi thought and ritual in pre-modern Middle East and South Asia.

 

Love, Longing and Self-annihilation: Reconceptualizing Fana as Ecstasy in Fakhr al-Din?Iraqi’s Ushaq-nameh

 

Through exploring Ushaq-nameh attributed to Fakhr al-Din?Iraqi, the paper argues that love, longing and self-annihilation in God (fana) and are forms of ecstasy in Sufi literature.
