Golriz Shayani is a Ph.D. student in Ethnomusicology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the relationship between worship music, affect, community-, and place-making among Iranian/Persian-speaking Christians in the diaspora.

Persian Christian Worship Music: A Medium for Negotiating Religious and National Identities

In this ethnographic study, I investigate the socio-cultural mechanisms through which diasporic Persian Christians develop their worship music repertoire, and how does their music reflect Persian Christians’ nationality and religious identity.
