Rohan Hughes

Rohan graduated from QUT in 2013 and was awarded the OAA (QLD/NT Division) award for clinical excellence and the Johnson & Johnson Vision Care award for excellence in the study of contact lenses. During his time working in corporate and independent optometry in Perth, he developed special interests in myopia control and ocular therapeutics.


Rohan is nearing the completion of his PhD candidature in the Contact Lens and Visual Optics Laboratory at QUT, which examined ocular changes during accommodation in children in myopic and non-myopic children. During his candidature, Rohan presented his research findings at several international conferences, including ARVO 2019 in Vancouver, Canada, and The Optical Society 2019 Fall Vision Meeting in Washington D.C., U.S.A.

He has been a supervising clinician in the QUT Optometry Clinic since 2017, predominantly in the Myopia Control Clinic. He also works in an independent practice in Brisbane which is well-regarded for paediatric eye care (including myopia control) and is the Professional Services Officer for Optometry Queensland/Northern Territory (OQNT). 


Rohan has served On the OQNT Board during 2017, and as Vice President in 2018, his work for which he was awarded the Young Optometrist of the Year award in 2018.
