Matthew Neels

Mr. Neels is an independent compliance and risk management professional working with Strategic Risk Associates in Richmond, VA.  He previously served as Chief Compliance Officer at Capital One Financial. He also served as the Corporate Compliance & BSA Officer for MBNA Corporation, a diversified bank specializing in credit cards, small business loans, and residential mortgages. 
 
Before MBNA, Mr. Neels managed Corporate Compliance at MNC Financial, a diversified regional commercial bank, and managed regulatory compliance matters and coordination with federal banking authorities.  
 
He began his career at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a National Bank Examiner.  His areas of expertise included Loan Portfolio Management, Commercial Lending, Operations, and Compliance. 
 
Mr. Neels has served on the American Bankers Association’s Compliance Administrative Committee and was active with the Delaware Bankers Association Compliance Committee.  He is past Chairman of the Board of the Better Business Bureau of Central Virginia and is on the Board of the Virginia chapter of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists.  He holds certifications in Compliance, Privacy, Money Laundering and Risk Management. Mr. Neels is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
