NASL 31st Annual Meeting & Rehab Symposium

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across our nation, a seemingly endless series of challenges have confronted caregivers, especially in the long term and post-acute care sector. Undaunted, NASL members have battled myriad challenges and triumphed by continuing to deliver the quality care that our loved ones, neighbors, friends and all who have suffered from COVID-19 both need and deserve.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) acknowledges the tremendous burden inflicted by COVID-19; yet, CMS is moving forward with nearly double-digit cuts to Medicare Part B therapy services and other reimbursement for services for nursing facility patients.

Are you prepared for these Medicare Part B cuts?
Join us as we wrestle with this challenge and many others, including:
PDPM, telehealth, information blocking and outcome measures
at the NASL 31st Annual Meeting & Rehab Symposium.

NASL is proud of the way our members have stepped up during these tenuous times. We look forward to connecting with you, albeit virtually, for our pre-conference Rehab Symposium on November 6, 2020 and for the NASL 31st Annual Meeting on November 13 and 20, 2020.

Learn more about NASL or join us for cross-cutting public policy, clinical, operational and practical sessions to see how colleagues and competitors alike are working to weather this once-in-a-lifetime tsunami of change.

Constructing an Effective Rehabilitation Approach to Address Common Manifestations of COVID-19

Amy Hobbs, Accelerated Care Plus
John Tawfik, Accelerated Care Plus

Our understanding of COVID-19 and the acute, subacute, and chronic impacts on individuals is rapidly evolving. As we approach the one-year mark of our awareness of this novel virus, what have we learned about the epidemiology, comorbidities, clinical manifestations, and lingering effects that can help guide a safe and effective course of rehabilitation for survivors? In this session, we will explore known sequelae of COVID-19 on various bodily systems and discuss rehab interventions directed toward restoring function and quality of life.  We will construct an effective post-acute interdisciplinary rehabilitation approach based on patient assessment and individual impairments; and apply infection control principles to maximize patient and clinician safety during rehabilitation treatment.

Practical Application of Information Blocking and Interoperability Rules

Robert Latz, Trinity Rehab Services
Alan Swenson, Kno2
Kara Gainer, APTA

This interactive session focuses on the expertise these professionals bring to bear as they provide a dialogue from three viewpoints regarding potential ‘information blocking’ scenarios before and after the November 2, 2020 effective date of these federal regulations. Scenarios will be discussed from the provider perspective and may ‘require’ collaboration between the provider and the software vendor.  They will provide an understanding of at least three of the eight exceptions to the information blocking regulation.  There are serious implications if an actor is properly or improperly claiming that another is blocking information.  The session will prepare attendees for potential ‘claims’ of information blocking, including a discussion of when these might or might not ‘really’ be considered information blocking.

Legislative & Regulatory Update

Cynthia Morton, NASL
Michaela Sims, Sims Strategies

NASL's ever popular update on the latest from CMS, the White House and Capitol Hill, highlighting key legislative and regulatory changes for NASL members and their clients.  This will include an update on the campaign to stop CMS from significant cuts to Part B services due to the E/M reform.  Since the Annual Meeting was specifically scheduled after the election, this presentation will include a review of what could be expected in either a Trump or Biden Administration and any changes in the control of the House and Senate and the impact on long term and health care policy and legislation.

Thank you and Closing Remarks

Cynthia Morton, NASL
