Dr. Dawn  Dunford

Dr. Dawn Dunford has lived all over Manitoba, Canada. Her father was a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer and moved the family as far north as Lynn Lake (Google that if you want to see remote) and as far south as Winnipeg. She attended the University of Manitoba, where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Science. Then was off to study Optometry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Vision Therapy was a pretty obscure niche in Canada in those days. Still, Dr. Dawn knew VT and pediatrics was her area of practice, so she decided to do an additional year of Residency, specializing in Binocular Vision Disorders and Vision Rehabilitation at State University of New York State College of Optometry.

With training finished, she returned home to Manitoba to work in Winnipeg. In 2003, she bought two offices and founded her specialty pediatric and vision therapy clinic in Stonewall, Manitoba. She now works between her Northern office in Swan River and her Southern office in Stonewall – located 5 hours apart.

In 2004 Dr. Dawn became the first female and only the 3rd Optometrist in Canada to earn her Fellowship in the College of Optometry in Vision Development. She’s the current President of the Canadian Chapter of the College of Optometry in Vision Development and has lectured up-and-coming VT Docs and Vision Therapists across the country.

She has been an American National Board Examiner for Optometry in the USA, served as an Assistant Adjunct Clinical Professor for Pacific University since 2003 and enjoys teaching 4th-year optometry interns. In July 2019, she founded a Residency program in Pediatric and Vision Rehabilitation. It is the first exclusively private practice Residency Program in Canada.

In her spare time, she loves to travel with her husband Ben and daughter Calleigh. She also likes to read and hang out with her two Airedale Terriers, Darth Vader and Princess Leia.
