Christopher Berner

Chris Berner is Head of Grantee Cash Management at the National Science Foundation (NSF) within the Office of Budget, Finance, and Award Management, Division of Financial Management, Cash Management Branch. Chris leads a team of four senior financial personnel responsible for processing all of NSF's grant payments (totaling over $6 billion each year), support of the Award Cash Management Service (ACM$), and management of grantee post-award financial reporting requirements. His team assists with post-award financial inquiries and also conducts annual baseline monitoring activities to ensure sound financial management of federal funds.

Chris has been within the National Science Foundation for the past four years. Previously, he has held federal accounting positions with the US Environmental Protection Agency, US Agency for International Development, Department of Labor, and the US African Development Foundation. Additionally, he served over seven years in the Army National Guard as an Infantryman. Through his federal service, he has specialized in areas such as: Federal Financial Reporting, Financial Systems Management, Federal Grants Management, Funds Management (to include Foreign Currency held Outside of Treasury), and Data Analysis and Reconciliation. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Grand Canyon University.
