Ryan Solgi

I am a PhD student in the University of California Santa Barbara. My research interests include optimization and machine learning and their applications in different domains including hydroinformatics. I have published several peer reviewed journals especially I have coauthored a Wiley book entitled “Metaheuristic and Evolutionary Algorithms for Engineering Optimization”.

My research encompass a broad range of domains from modeling and software design to hardware implementation. Specifically, as part of my PhD research, I apply new techniques from optimization, machine learning, and statistical modeling to improve management and forecasting of hydro systems. Collaborating with Groundswell Technologies Inc, we design monitoring and real-time decision systems to protect critical natural resources including surface and ground water supplies and mitigate natural hazards. Outside of academia I worked with Atlazo Inc where I experienced hardware implementation of machine learning models. I designed methods for reducing the dimensionality and memory usage of feed forward neural networks for hyper low power application embedded in a System-on-Chips (SoC).
