Heather Hamir

Heather Barclay Hamir, Ph.D., is president and CEO of the Institute for Study Abroad. Barclay Hamir has worked in international education for two decades at both public and private universities and now at IFSA, where she continues to pursue dual passions for inclusion and future-focused learning in education abroad. Under her leadership, The University of Texas-Austin was recognized with the Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for Campus Internationalization and the Diversity Abroad Excellence in Diversifying International Education Institutional Award for initiatives that substantially increased participation among underrepresented populations. Barclay Hamir is coeditor of two volumes, Promoting Inclusion in Education Abroad: A Handbook of Research and Practice (Stylus, 2018) and Deepening Impact Through Inclusive Practices in Education Abroad, (The Forum on Education Abroad, forthcoming). She is an elected Board Member-At-Large for NAFSA: Association of International Educators and is a past member of the Forum Council, Diversity Abroad’s Advisory Committee, and the Fund for Education Abroad’s Board of Directors. Barclay Hamir received her Ph.D., from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
