Speakers

Elizabeth Smith, MPH, ICCE, IBCLC, RLC

Elizabeth Smith graduated in 1995 with a BS in Health Promotion and Education and a desire to work in Maternal Health.  She went on to earn a Master in Public Health with an emphasis in Maternal Child Nutrition in 2000.

After working in a variety of seemingly unrelated positions for the Department of Health Promotion and Education at the University of Utah.  Each of these unknowingly aligned putting her in the perfect position to become the coordinator for the Perinatal Patient Education Department at the University of Utah Hospital.  While coordinating the education program, the hospital was on the journey to become Baby Friendly and she was asked to join that task force.  After successful completion of the 10-steps and designation was awarded, the person coordinating Baby Friendly moved jobs and Elizabeth was asked to take that on as well.  As a part of that Baby Friendly Journey, Elizabeth became an IBCLC and eventually became the manager of the lactation team.

Elizabeth is actively involved in all areas of Maternal/Child Health.  She is currently the President Elect for ICEA, The Board Chair for the Mountain West Mothers’ Milk Bank, on the Board for PSI-UTAH and attends meetings for perinatal bereavement, state lactation measures, and many more. She is a frequent speaker both locally and nationally.

She has been married over 30 years and has 3 children ages 16-28.  Prior to Covid, she was the Bingo caller for her church’s social committee, sang in the choir, took boxing lessons, and enjoyed being in close spaces with people.  She has full confidence that people and places will happen again.
