Jess Byrne is director of the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), appointed by Governor Brad Little in September 2020. He is responsible for leading the state’s efforts to protect the quality of Idaho’s air, land, and water. Prior to being appointed director, Jess served as DEQ's deputy director for 8 years and has been with the agency for 21 years. Jess has a BS in environmental health and a Master of Public Administration both from Boise State University.
