A Federal Strategy to Ensure Secure and Reliable Supplies of Critical Minerals

Executive Order 13817: A Federal Strategy to Ensure Secure and Reliable Supplies of Critical Minerals identified high import reliance for mineral raw materials as a source of strategic vulnerabilities for U.S. economic and national security interests. Through an interagency process, 35 minerals were designated as critical. While the U.S. has reserves and resources for many of the identified minerals, too few deposits are being developed to meet domestic consumption requirements. Addressing these vulnerabilities resulting from import reliance will require a multifaceted approach.
