Laurel Firestone was appointed to the State Water Resources Control Board by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. Prior to her appointment, Laurel co-founded and co-directed Community Water Center, a statewide non-profit environmental justice organization aiding disadvantaged communities gain access to safe, clean, and affordable drinking water. Laurel represented the Tulare County Water Commission; several state policy advisory committees; co-chaired the Governor’s Drinking Water Stakeholder Group; collaborated with universities to develop advisory programs ensuring the human right to water; earned numerous accolades, and authored the Guide to Community Drinking Water Advocacy and sundry articles on safe drinking water and the environment.
