Kim Merritt, aka The URL Dr., is living proof that the SBDC grows successful entrepreneurs. Raised in the funeral business, Kim is a fourth generation self-employed business owner and serial entrepreneur. Her first company, Kim's Khocolate, that she started at the tender age of eleven, was a client of the SBDC in Western MD, when Kim was just sixteen. That company went on to do business with Apple Computer, The Rolling Stones, AT&T, Bausch & Lomb, and Fortune 500 companies around the world. Kim has also started two e-commerce companies including Good Dog in a Box and Dogsurance and her marketing agency, The URL Dr, which collectively have grossed more than $11.5 million. Kim has been a client of the SBDC for multiple companies and in turn has spoken and presented on various small business related topics for SBDCs around the country. Kim's entrepreneurial activities have been highlighted in "USA Today," "Inc," "People," "Barron's," "Newsweek" and "Success." Kim can currently be seen in a series of online learning courses to help small businesses launch and grow in the 21st century. Her new book, "The Small Business Guide to WordPress" lays out what every business owner need to know about WordPress websites, hosting and security in 2020.
