Shelly Bernal

Shelly Bernal is a Florida SBDC at FIU consultant who understands the ways of both big business and small business. Through 12 years as a business development manager at Hormel Foods and at Kraft Foods, she has experience with growing sales through distributors in retail and foodservice channels with products in all temperature classes. For 7 of those years, she managed international markets and had profit & loss responsibility. Her best-in-class training and experience in brand management, channel development, strategic planning and budgeting & forecasting supports the development of small businesses. Shelly earned a bachelor's in marketing from the University of North Texas and an MBA from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administracion in Caracas. She is bilingual in Spanish. Shelly also has 8 years of experience as a small business owner during which she adapted her education and Fortune 500 career to the realities of the startup. Business modeling, customer needs analysis and project management were areas of focus and success for sustainable growth. This expertise is shared with small businesses on a daily basis as a consultant at the Florida SBDC at FIU.
