Barbara  Lindeman

Barbara Lindeman serves as the Director of International Health, Safety and Security at the University of Missouri, Columbia. She served as the co-chair of the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) Academia Working Group (AWG) Mental Health Initiative and edited and co-authored the OSAC AWG Mental Health Toolkit. She frequently presents and publishes about health and safety issues, risk assessment and mitigation, and legal issues impacting the field of education abroad. Related recent publications and presentations include Best Practices in Addressing Mental Health Issues Affecting Education Abroad Participants (NAFSA 2017) and the NAFSA Annual conference workshop “Managing Mental Health and Suicidal Ideation Abroad” (May 2019). Lindeman serves on the Interassociational Task Force on Health and Safety in Study Abroad, which developed the first standards document for health, safety and security in the field of education abroad, and is a past-chair of the NAFSA Health and Safety Subcommittee. She is an active member the Forum on Education Abroad, Diversity Abroad, and Pulse: International Safety and Security Professionals in Higher Education.
