I have been studying the Japanese economic development in a comparative institutional perspective. That is, I have been investigating complementary roles of markets and institutions in economic development as well as overtime changes in markets and institutions, using the framework of economics, historical micro-data and historical documents. My researches have mainly focused on the history of finance, employment, corporations and industrial policy. In recent years, my research interests have been extending to spatial and political aspects of economic history.
