May I Have Your Attention Please: Power Props

In this 30-minute part one segment, the participant will be exposed to 5 evidenced based teaching strategies to engage the adult learner.

In this 30-minute part one segment, the participant will observe 6 demonstrations using powerful props and teaching tools that aid in getting the learners attention.

In this 30-minute part two segment, the participant will learn how to make 3-5 DIY powerful props and teaching tools.

In this 30-minute part two segment, the participant will be exposed to a virtual interactive classroom.

Understanding and Implementing Closed Knee Pushing

Brittany Sharpe McCollum, CCE(BWI), CD(DONA)

In this session the learner will: 

1. Explore benefits of closed knee pushing.

2. Practice positions that offer opportunities to increase space at the pelvic outlet.
3. Develop skills for encouraging closed knee pushing in settings where and with providers whom it is not familiar.

One Childbirth Class Tip and Four Favorite Props

After this session, the learner will be able to:

1. Value using consistent word picture, an Overview, to describe labor and birth throughout a childbirth class.
2. Describe four props that picture the stages and hormones of labor and birth.
3. Describe birth beads used to augment a calming breath in labor.

Comfort Measures for The Solo Birthing Person

After this session, the learner will be able to:

1. Name 3 reasons why a birthing person might be alone.
2. Name 4 techniques from the “couples” playbook that can be utilized for the solo birthing person.
3. Identify 2 contraindication for using the TENS Unit.
