DESCRIPTION:Culture and family are a unique component of self-identity and physical/emotional health. How we raise, nurture, and nourish our children through human milk is a question of love and preservation not only of the species but also of the community to which we belong. Focusing on race, ethnicity, class, gender, physical and emotional differences, sexual orientation and other key identities, this presentation will focus on how breast and chestfeeding have special cultural components. It will also discuss the importance of receiving support and safe space when one does not belong to the dominant culture or the service providers do not look like them.
