The Department of Education's

2022 VIRTUAL CYBERSECURITY SYMPOSIUM

In recognition of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCAM), the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Information Assurance Services is hosting the 2022 Cybersecurity Symposium. Conducted each Thursday throughout October, the event includes moderated panel discussions from OCIO personnel, speaker presentations from other Federal agencies and members of industry, a chat lounge to allow attendees to network, and a vendor exhibit hall. These sessions are available via this online conference platform and most sessions feature a live chat with the speaker immediately following the presentation. After the initial presentation, speaker recordings are available on demand through-out the month.

Check in weekly for a finalized agenda of topics and exciting new education opportunities.

The goal of the event is to develop the Department's cybersecurity workforce and increase cybersecurity awareness.  By attending one or more of these sessions, Department employees and contractors learn about current cybersecurity threats, recognize how these threats may impact employees and contractors at work or at home, and identify actions which can be taken to manage cybersecurity risk.  Featured topics include cloud security, supply chain risk, Internet of Things, and social media. You're encouraged to utilize this event and its numerous resources to help stay informed and #BeCyberSmart.

Registration opens October 1, 2022 and continues through October 28, 2022. Please use the Chrome browser for registration and for attending the sessions.

Week of October 6 (Week 1):

If you connect it, protect it. The line between our online and offline lives is indistinguishable. This network of connections creates both opportunities and challenges for individuals and organizations across the globe. This week highlights the ways in which internet-connected devices have impacted our lives and will empower all users to own their role in security by taking steps to reduce their risks.

This week focuses on cloud security, supply chain risk management, and steps users can take to protect internet connected devices while teleworking.

Week of October 20 (Week 3):

This week we switch gears and focus on our attention on human behaviors – from social media to social engineering to gain an understanding of how our daily activities can introduce risk to you and the Department. Everyone needs to be empowered to do their part. #BeCyberSmart.
